Mutant Chronicles - the movie

Well, as you all could read it, there is an upcoming film project about mutant chronicles (see also the page Film on this website). But I have a few comments, which I would like to discuss:
1) the story of the film is just loosely related to Mutant Chronicles. It seems that its more based on the former Nya Mutant (New Mutant) or the later RYMD (Mutant Space) - both were predecessors to the game Mutant Chronicles as we know it now. A little bit disappointing for all MC-fans.
2) But they also use characters from the actual MC-game like Mitch Hunter, Max Steiner and Valerie Duval. IMHO this is too much mixture, they should either stay with the original or make something completely new.
3) One last point is Devon Aoki as Valerie Duval. I liked her in Sin City, she sure is a good actress, but as Valerie? For me, she is a total miscast.

As far as anybody in the business know, Mutant Chronicle don´t publish anymore officially, so they were given the opportunity to do with the source material as the wished. To the better or worse of the result. If they stay true to some source material almost nobody has ever heard of , is tricky, because, the more they must explain the World of Mutant Chronicles and so on. I think under the current circumstances it is the best opportunity with a proper cast to get a decent flick about some Zombie battling Doomtroopers. Devon Aoki would suit better for Mishima, but i´m thankful, that they got a decent female lead after all.

They do have to explain the world of Mutant Chronicles anyway because nobody knows anything about these two backgrounds, neither of Nya Mutant nor of the modern Mutant Chronicles. So IMO this cant be a reason why they changed the background to a former version of MC. And that it is to complicated to explain the MC-universe to a general audience: well, have a look on the Alien movie-serie. There was so few explained (in each film) although the universe was already elaborated in detail - there was no need of endless explanations because the story was excellent, the characters were well worked out and there were really good actors.
No, exactly the opposite will happen, all (or at least most) MC-fans will either shun the movie or will incite against it, so they will have double trouble: they will have to satisfy the mainstream public AND will also have to bring the MC-fans back. But I suppose they dont really care about these fans, simply because there are so few left. And so I fear this will once again be just another Rambo vs. the Space Zombies....

As long as it doesn´t become Alien versus Predator 2 - Menace in Redneck town I´m eager to watch whatever  source they take the film from. 
No I´m fully aware that they don´t care about the hardcore Mutant Chronicle community, but that´s Hollywood. Accept it or leave it.
I think they got a strong cast and not some cheap B-series actors, who want to pose as real actors in a film. And I´m also sure that they will leave much explanation out, in favor of some action scenes. Isn´t that what you want to see in a movie, instead of a long monolog how the corporations were founded, the settling on the planets and that Algoroth started the War, because he was suspected to hide weapons of mass destruction. Of course you can bring all that in an entertaining way if you are a bravo director, but it´s doubtful that it will be served this way.

This new trailer makes a much better impression of the movie on me.

Both trailers have impressed me alot. Although I have to admit that I am still not really happy about the look. Maybe because I do stick to the design Paul Bonner and Paolo Parente gave to MC, so this  "new" retro-style, hmmmm...... 
Like I already said in the thread about the new 3rd edition for the RPG from COG-games, this is not MC to me anymore.
