My question is why is it so important for the corporations to gain dominace over other populated planets. Would it not be safer just to colonize other inhabitated asteroids or come to terms with the neighbouring corporation. They all want to make profit, but martial action is just a very unprofitable way to gain access over others ressources. Okay count Capitol out, but what about the others. What makes them fight for supremacy?

this is because the dark symetry taints the souls of every human.

not all become heretics, but the lust for war is increased, pride is more important than reason, and so on..

it is not always cheap to colonize new asteroids or start new mines on a planet. very often it is better to take over a mine or an asteroid together with its civilian workers as well as equipment.

I guess it's human nature...
And of course, let me cite Calvin and Hobbes:
"Why are we playing war and not peace?"
"To few role models!"

Well, what "trashy wasteplanets" do you mean? Asteroids? Very few are the center of conflicts involving warfare. If there are hostile takeovers, then its because these space boulders are in some way valuable. Most battles are still fought on Mars and Venus - and both are highly valuable for all of the megacorps. They mean living space for the people and a lot of different resources. After hundreds of years humankind settled the different planets, resources are already getting less. And this is the situation right now: each megacorp is beginning to realise, that its not a struggle for dominance anymore, but maybe a fight for survival.... (at least, this I was told at the St.Mullin College in the course "Why Capitol tries to rule the universe").  Grin
